Do you FEEL healthy? (Part 1)
And when I
ask if you FEEL healthy, I mean, do you have energy? Do you feel mentally alert? Do you feel satisfied (not hungry)?
For years I
felt tired. I have always been a night
owl, so getting up at any time before 9 am or times when I would get less than
12 hours of sleep really hurt me. But
even when I would get ample sleep – I was still yawning!
When I had
kids…well that is when mom brain came into play. My lack of sleep and loss of mental awareness
went down the drain. I was lucky if I
could remember to stick the milk in the fridge and not the pantry.
The lack of
sleep and mental awareness wore on me and didn’t help in my job. I remember
returning to my job after maternity leave and my boss called me in on an
assignment. I rushed in, without pen and
paper, got the assignment and by the time I was back to my desk I couldn’t
remember what I was supposed to do.
Thankfully, my boss was understanding and repeated the assignment – as I
scribbled down notes.
You know when
you are younger; these types of things are what “old” people suffer with…memory
loss and needing a mid-day nap. I still like to believe I am not old – at least
not yet, maybe in another 50 years I will believe it.
This feeling
of being tired and not mentally alert can be associated with lack of sleep or
mom brain or all of the above. Or maybe it could be what we eat?
Remember the
phrase, “You are what you eat!” Do you
eat a boxed or canned food that is loaded with preservatives or do you eat
fresh fruits and veggies? The problem
with foods that are heavily processed is they usually have very little or no
nutritional content. Processed foods are
often loaded with sugar and salt. And while these things in moderation are not
a bad thing, we often don’t realize how much of these processed foods we are
eating.
I encourage
you to take a look at what you are eating every day. How much salt is in it? How much sugar? Are there artificial flavors or ingredients
that I have no idea what they are? Keep track for a day and take note to how
you feel. Do you feel healthy?
